As part of the citywide Open House NY weekend, Think!Chinatown’s new art exhibition, “Between Line and Thread: Connecting the Asian American Arts Centre Collection” will be open to LES Arts & Culture Open House visitors from 2-5PM. Curator Sophia Ma will be in the studio to share how the exhibition explores the literal lines, threads, and metaphorical representations of connection in the works of the Asian American Arts Centre (AAAC) collection and the web between the works, artists, and organizations that made this exhibition possible.

After taking a look at “Between Line and Thread”, join a free, drop-in art-making community workshop right outside T!C’s Studio at the AZIMUTH public art pavilion. Supported by the Laundromat Project, artist/architect Cheryl Wing-Zi Wong will lead a multi-generational workshop where participants will create drawings and 3D models of their most loved Manhattan Chinatown structures. Children and adults are invited to represent their favorite buildings using color, collage and craft materials. All materials will be provided and everyone is welcome -- no previous architecture or art experience required.

Sophia Ma is an independent curator and writer. The most recent project Ma completed in August 2023 was "Gathering", a two-location exhibition of forty-five members of Asianish, an informal artist and cultural producers collective of Asian descent, where she was a co-grantee of the Asian Women Giving Circle grant and the Brooklyn Arts Fund with Cecile Chong. Ma currently works for M+ American Friends Foundation as their Programs and Members Manager, connecting audiences in the US to the work of M+ through programming and events.

Cheryl Wing-Zi Wong is a New York-based artist and trained architect working at the intersection of art, architecture and the public realm. Wong’s work investigates the transformation of space over time. Through sculpture, installation and site-specific architectural interventions that activate underused public spaces, she explores how we can negotiate and share space together.
