Community Workshop on the Magic of Everyday Chinatown Objects w/ Alison Kuo

  • 1 Pike Street New York, NY, 10002 United States (map)

Join exhibiting artist Alison Kuo and assistant teacher Mei Brunette to learn about how you can make art out of everyday Chinatown objects like kitchen utensils, good luck decorations, and cleaning implements. We will learn basic sculptural techniques for using wire, hot glue, and string to attach objects to a structure. All materials will be provided, but participants will also be welcome to bring their own items to contribute. Together we will build a communal art installation that will be displayed for all to enjoy.

Appropriate for all people ages 5 and up. No art making experience required. Children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by a guardian during the workshop.

Session 1 is from 1-2PM.

Session 2 is from 2:30-3:30PM.

Alison Kuo is a second generation immigrant who pursues intersectional relationships across communities through artistic engagement. She is the co-founder of the group Sisters in Self-Defense based in Manhattan’s Chinatown.
