Advocacy for Chinatown Small Businesses
Join T!C in advocating for a Chinatown-specific relief program
Join T!C in urging City Council to ensure that equity is at the heart of covid-relief initiatives. So far, programs have been missing the mark for small businesses in Chinatown. With such sweeping changes sure to come, we fear generalized relief programs may unintentionally give advantages to investors with access to big capital, resulting in an acceleration of displacement in Chinatown.
NEIGHBORHOOD-WIDE
Building: Outdoor Dining
Assembly for Chinatown - building beautiful outdoor dining solutions for restaurants in need. At no cost to the businesses, the Assembly team designs, sources materials from Chinatown vendors, and constructs DoT compliant dining barriers restaurants. Artists beautify and personalize the space for the restaurants with the help of volunteers who come (socially-distanced) together in a help-a-thon to sand and paint the wood barriers. An API women-led collaboration (A+A+A, Chaos Built, Think!Chinatown).
Donate: Relief Fund
Emergency Small Business Relief Fund by AAFE/Renaissance. Funding will allow Renaissance to provide financial assistance to business owners. Many restaurants and retail stores have seen their business drop up to 80% in the past several weeks. AAFE and Renaissance are working hand-in-hand with city and federal officials to coordinate low-to-no-interest loan programs.
Donate: Essential Services
Chinese Planning Council is responding to our community member’s most critical needs by continuing to provide meals for seniors, home care, and the most up-to-date information and resources in language that our communities know. They are calling community members one-by-one to check on their well-being, and they changed their service to operate remotely. They are also creating new ways to help solve and advocate for day-to-day needs of our communities.
Eat: Order Food

Donate: Food
Heart of Dinner - Delivering love to Asian elders throughout NYC, one meal at a time. Help support the po po’s and gong gong’s with culturally thoughtful food packages, all sourced, cooked, and hand-delivered by volunteers.
OTHER RESOURCES
Report: Incidents of Racism
As the virus Covid-19 spreads, numerous Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) have reported experiencing microaggressions, racial profiling, hate incidents and in some cases, hate violence. Asian Pacific Policy and Planning Council (A3PCON) and Chinese for Affirmative Action (CAA) have launched this reporting center to allow community members to report incidents of hate they have experienced. Individual information, including personal identification details, will be kept confidential and will only be shared with permission. In the aggregate, the information will be used for assistance, advocacy and education.
