To bring attention to the need for sound attenuation under the Manhattan Bridge T!C invites artist, Motomichi Nakamura, to the South side of Division Street. At our last Chinatown Night Market of the year, you can find Motomichi’s outdoor projection mapping a red-eyed monster creature reacting to the overpowering noise of the subway.
Motomichi Nakamura, born and raised in Japan, is an award winning animator, projection artist and educator. After graduating from Parsons School of Design he moved to Ecuador for 7 years and started working as an artist. He moved back to the U.S. in 2016 and currently lives in New York. His work is known for the use of black, white, and red and he creates monsters with minimalistic graphic elements inspired by mythology and cryptozoology. He has exhibited globally in numerous museums and galleries including the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York, Winzavod - Moscow Contemporary Art Center, MARCO in Monterrey Mexico, Olympia Park Munich among others. His animated films have been screened at Sundance Film Festival, Onedotzero Festival, and Edinburgh International Film Festival and his recent experimental film “Okami” won in The Leeds International Film Festival.
