T!C Virtual Program: New Years in Chinatown & the Year of the Tiger Hat

Join T!C online for a hand-on crafts workshop and learn about the Chinese tradition of the fantastically designed Tiger Hats! T!C’s Lantern Residency Artist, Jia Sung will discuss “Guardian Xianchan”, her playful wearable lantern which celebrates the Chinese textile tradition of tiger hats (虎頭帽). Artist Ling Tang will walk us through a workshop to create your own tiger-hat-inspired LNY decoration which you can send to Chinatown small businesses to wish them a Happy New Year. We’ll also talk about New Year traditions in Chinatown, and share some of our festival favorites in the neighborhood. Supplies list & template.

Jia Sung is an artist and educator, born in Minnesota, bred in Singapore, now based in Brooklyn. Her work draws on motifs from Chinese mythology and folklore, and spans paintings, artist books, textiles, printmaking, and murals. @jiazilla
